Spee-Dee to Promote Sanitary Servo Drive Auger Filler at PACK EXPO Chicago

Sturtevant, Wis. — James P. Navin, President of Spee-Dee® Packaging Machinery, Inc., announced that the company will showcase the Sanitary Servo Drive Auger Filler at Booth 4045 during Pack Expo Chicago, scheduled for October 28 – 31, 2012, at McCormick Place in Chicago, Illinois.  “This innovative filler was engineered by our team to assist packagers in addressing their unique processing requirements when filling sensitive dry ingredients,” he revealed.

Timm Johnson, Vice President, Sales/Marketing, explained that many corporations have expressed concerns about how to more rigorously protect the quality and consistency of their products.  In the last few years, product safety has continued to be a primary consideration when integrating new equipment.

“When developing our Sanitary Servo Drive Auger Filler,” Johnson clarified, “our overriding objective was to prevent product corruption from outside sources by stopping contaminants from coming into contact with the material being filled.  In addition, we focused on eliminating all cracks and crevices that are typically hard to clean in traditional auger fillers.  As a result, all of the mechanical connections are outside the product contact area of the Sanitary Servo Drive.  All surfaces of the auger filler under or adjacent to the driving mechanism are readily accessible and the agitator blade and auger drive shaft may be efficiently removed for inspection and cleaning,” he stated.

“All product contact surfaces are made from stainless steel for easy maintenance and to resist corrosion.  In addition, all permanent joints in metal product contact surfaces are continuously welded, polished and free of imperfections.  No threads or fasteners are permitted in any portion of the system that is in contact with the product being filled.  We have also incorporated splash guards and other design features to further prevent product from being contaminated,” Johnson concluded.

Through the utilization of BFM® fittings, Spee-Dee has also eliminated the need for hose clamps to connect the infeed system to the auger.  These unique flexible connectors are cleaner, safer and offer a longer lifespan than standard fittings.  They may also be removed quickly and easily, without the use of tools, for cleaning.
